Thomas Jefferson Orignial Pragmatist free essay sample

Among the significant topics in the book is the realist origination of the Jeffersonian, which starts with thoughts of the Creator as the celestial Architect of nature, and the economy of nature, which clarifies the effectiveness and the common sense with which the Creator made nature. These thoughts become the establishment for which all other Jeffersonian thoughts come from. Among them are early originations of pragmatism. Therefore, the theory of this paper concerns Jeffersonian idea showed early hints of sober mindedness in its thoughts of the Creator, the physiology of thought and ethics, and helpful information The Jeffersonian realist origination of God, the Architect of nature, prepared that God more likely than not made it workable for everybody to find His reality and His character. Along these lines, God could be remotely approved through perception of nature, which made God substantial. For instance, David Riotousness accepted that realities which men didn't yet have the f oggiest idea. .. Noisy affirm the quality which previously had been demonstrated by astronomic science. We will compose a custom article test on Thomas Jefferson: Orignial Pragmatist or on the other hand any comparative point explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page Consequently, what has been seen through science can foresee what lies in different pieces of the universe that has yet not been watched. This recommended there could be no subject-object split among God and man. Such contentions against subject-object split reflect practical person William Sesames conviction of authenticity about one hundred years after the fact, which would later impact logical thinker Hilary Putnam origination of authenticity an additional hundred years after that.Jeffersonian thoughts on speculation likewise uncovered realists thoughts on truth, majority, hypotheses, and absolutes. Jefferson commented that distinctions of sentiment Like contrasts of face, are a law of our temperament, and ought to be seen with a similar resilience. Abortionist further remarked that since individuals had changing perspectives, the Jeffersonian trusted it to be pointless to ploy a flat out or to bring consistency among various considerations through hypotheses. This fluctuating perspectives would prompt experimentation and the utilization of involvement with deciding the truth.Pragmatist William James communicated comparable emotions as the Jeffersonian. Diskettes clarified Sesames thought that reality were restrictive and continually advancing as opposed to digest and supreme with an inclination. For realities over hypotheses. Subsequently, James communicated comparable emotions towards truth, majority, absolutes, and speculations as Jefferson. Brittons delineation of the Jeffersonian thought of valuable Knowledge intently reflects a few of logical thinker John Dews thoughts on instruction. The Jeffersonian accepted brain and body to be one. Since the psyche couldn't get by without a living body, believing was viewed as a method of activity got from a working body. Essentially, Dewey felt that the primary snag in instruction was the dualism of activity and information. Dewey felt that information was a type of activity much like the Jeffersonian, and that information could be acquired through activity, however information for the wellbeing of its own must be subordinate to activity and practice.Jefferson agreed that information is of little use, when kept to minor theory: But when theoretical realities are decreased to rehearse Information at that point turns out to be extremely valuable. The two originations show the significant reason of realism of reasonableness. He proceeded to state an amazing, prosperous, republican network could result just if each class was equipped for its functional undertaking. Dewey agrees with this feeling as Richard Hovercrafts brings up in his book Anti-vastness in American Life that Dewey considered training to be a significant power in social reconstruction. Therefore, both the Jeffersonian and Dewey saw instruction as the prime vehicle in progressing cultural needs and displayed the significant element of logic that all exercises ought to be result driven. All in all, when the possibility of sober mindedness was formed into a set up reasoning, it found among its persuasions the Jeffersonian custom somebody multi year before it. For example, the Jeffersonian abhorrence for mysticism, for example, dualism among man and God, and thought and activity, can be found in practical person William James convictions of authenticity, and John Dews thoughts on training. James and the Jeffersonian accepted that there exists various perspectives, brought about the possibility of majority of realities, and on account of such they saw a characteristic uncertainty in speculations and absolutes. Jefferson and Dews general thoughts on training mirror each other intently. For instance, their conviction that instruction ought to give the abilities and information to improve the general public show the outcome situated character of realism. Abortionist himself summarizes it the best: Eighteenth-century America could give the motivation, yet not the affirmation for an even minded way of thinking.

My Favorite Web Site and Why Some Works Cited Missing In contrast to most of the other people in this class, I had never done any net surfing. Essay on Lowering the Legal Drinking Age - 2090 Words

Here in the United States, there is a law that prohibits youth 21 years of age and younger not to drink any alcohol beverages. However, in this country, anyone who turns 18 can sign up and be in the armed forces to protect the country. In the year 2001, war broke out between the Middle East and the United States and thousands of men and women were deployed to the Middle East to deal with the problem. While they were over there, the soldiers would witness many things that civilians could never dream of. In the book â€Å"An Angel in Hell† by Ryan A. Young adults in Europe grew up with alcohol in their lifestyle and are allowed to drink at the age of 18. They probably have more knowledge and education about alcohol than adults at the age of 21 years do in the United States (Drinking Age ProCon.org). Even though the driving age in Europe is much higher than it is in the United States, the young adults in Europe still have access to things like mopeds, go carts and other vehicles that have motors that could cause harm to themselves or others. Many people in the United States such as politicians, scientists and parents believe that the current drinking age of 21 years of age is the perfect age for the law to be because of the consequences alcohol can have on the body as well as other people around a person who drink too much alcohol. However there are many soldiers who are in the armed forces disagree with the drinking age and want the law to be changed in the future. Last supper Essay Example For Students

Last supper Essay The Last SupperThe Last Supper was a very powerful Biblical event, in which Jesus and his disciples gathered for one final dinner together. According to the Bible, important events took place during the Last Supper, including an announcement by Jesus that one of his disciples would betray him and the first communion. To artists in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, it was necessary to give proper deference to such notable occurrences. Both Leonardo da Vinci and Jacopo Robusti, known as Tintoretto, took upon the challenge of recreating the Last Supper. While Last Supper by da Vinci and Last Supper by Tintoretto are very similar in subject matter, they differ in composition, symbolism, and the choice of narrative moment. The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci is the first great figure composition of the High Renaissance and the definitive interpretation of its theme. Jesus and his twelve disciples are seated at a long table that is parallel to the picture plane. The room is spacious and peaceful, and Christ has his arms spread in disposed trust . The rest of the group is in intense and dramatic excitement, with their hands out in shock and question at Jesus words. The viewer can just feel the tense excitement sweeping through the groups of disciples. Jesus, the most important figure in the painting, has been placed in front of three windows that are in the back of the room, and he is framed by the center window with a curved pediment that arches above his head. His head serves as the focal and vanishing point of this piece, and your eye is immediately attracted to it. Da Vinci has arranged the disciples into groups of three and tied all the groups together through their hand motions giving this piece a symmetrically aesthetic feeling. Your eye is taken on a journey through the oval-shaped composition of the piece, but it is clear that Jesus serves as the vital magnet. The Last Supper by Tintoretto is a beautiful Mannerist-style painting in which the painter creates a revolutionary type of composition. The pieces surface plane now shoots in a diagonal motion and Jesus is noticeable only because of the light around his head. There is a feeling of unsure commotion throughout the figures as they lean into uncomfortable positions, such as the maid in the foreground. The figures also seem to blossom in light through a darkness of the background. The two brightest areas, Jesus and the light fixture, fight for the viewers attention and create a sense of uncertainty, perfecting what the Mannerists set out to accomplish. The use of symbolism in both Da Vincis and Tintorettos Last Supper is important to the interpretation of each piece. Da Vinci is the first known artist to place Judas, the disciple who betrays Jesus, on the same side of the table as Christ. This subtly symbolizes the trust that Jesus shared with his followers, and it is more realistic. By placing Christ in the center, as the focal point, with orthagonals leading towards him, Da Vinci creates a 3-D/pyramid effect with Christ that shows his still and stable calmness and poise amongst the distraught group. He also places Jesus inside the second window, symbolizing Jesus position as Christ, the son in the Christian trinity. The group of twelve is split into groups of threes, symbolizing the trinity, and supporting the symmetry. Tintorettos Last Supper uses symbolism very differently. He places genre figures throughout the painting, such as the waitresses, to ground the viewer in reality. This may act as his way of making the piece more realistic or closer to personal experience and therefore, more comfortable. Yet, he also places angels flying into the room, throwing off this grounded feeling but giving a nice balance of both heaven and Earth. These two accomplished artists, Da Vinci from the High Renaissance Period, and Tintoretto from the time of Mannerism, decided to paint the same event, but chose different narrative moments, exemplifying each of their purposes. Leonardo da Vinci chose to illustrate the moment in which Jesus proclaims that one of his disciples shall betray him, creating a sense of shock and question. .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1 , .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1 .postImageUrl , .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1 , .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1:hover , .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1:visited , .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1:active { border:0!important; } .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1:active , .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1 .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u137f79b4a6969f15458f7cfa4766c4e1:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Bottled water Essay Each of the followers of Jesus

Parallelisms Between Essays - Religion, Mythology,

Parallelisms Between Greek and Roman Mythology Western Civ I Greek and Roman mythology have many similarities between them. Each type has there own set of Gods and Goddesses, although they were worshiped for similar reasons. The following will explain each God or Goddess and explain how they compare to each other. The King of Gods in Greek Mythology is known as Zeus. Zeus was the ruler of the sky, and had the power to create thunderstorms and lightning as well as earthquakes. He was the child of Cronus and Rhea. As the story goes he was their sixth child, and the father to protect him from being overthrown had eaten the five previous children. Zeus was taken to a city called Crete and hidden from his father. As Zeus grew older and learned of what happened he found a potion to make his father regurgitate the other children. Once this happened they all teamed up and killed their father. Zeus then became the ruler of Mount Olympus, and head of the new line of Gods. Jupiter was the predominant power holder of Roman Gods. He was ruler of the sky, the daylight, all the weather, and even the thunder and lightening. Jupiter helped drive back the Sabines. His temple was built in the Capitol, and newly elected counsels offered their first prayers to him. Hera was the wife and sister of Zeus, and the High Goddess of the Greeks. She was extremely jealous of the affairs that her husband was having and often tormented or harmed the mistresses he was fooling around with. Although, when she went too far, or tried to cause death, Zeus would intervene and stop her. Hera tried to ship wreak Heracles on his return from Troy, and with that Zeus had her hung by the wrists from top of the mountain with an anvil tied to each ankle. The two had four children together. Juno, Hera's counterpart, was the wife of Jupiter. Juno was the protector of women, especially those who are married. Women often gave offerings to Juno to help with their childbirth. The God of the Underworld, Hades, was the brother of Zeus. He gained Hell, as his share in conquering their father. He is most known for kidnapping his wife, Persephone, while she was picking flowers in a field. As the story goes, Hades had her eat a piece of food in the Underworld, therefore she could not live on the Earth again. Her father, Zeus, made arrangements for her to be allowed on Earth for two-thirds of the year and in the Underworld as Hade's wife for the rest of the time. This is used as the cause of spring and winter. When she returns to the surface she brings spring with her and when she returns to the Underworld she leaves winter behind her. Pluto, the Roman God of the Underworld, who's name also means rich. It reflects the rich mineral resources beneath the ground and the rich resources above the earth. In art he is shown with the Horn of Plenty. This horn is most likely why we associate the Devil, or Satan, as having a horn on top of his head. His name was thought of to be bad luck, and therefore was hardly mentioned in myths. Ares was the child of Zeus and Hera. He was the God of War. Whenever he was seen or portrayed he would be fully armed and ready for battle. Any cause to fight or go to war would bring him out and about. He was the discomfited lover of Aphrodite. Almost all of his children by mortal women were of a violent nature. Mars, The Roman God of War and Agriculture, was the second most important god after Jupiter. The month March was named after Mars, and was also the first month of the Roman calendar. March was the month when agriculture was reborn and when most people engaged in war. Mars was given his own priest and altar in Rome. The wolf and woodpecker were the sacred animals of Mars. A festival in October was held in his honor and all farmers and soldiers would lay aside their weapons and had a celebration. The Greek Goddess of Love and Beauty was Aphrodite. She

A trip through panama. A travel description.

A trip through panama. A travel description. Day 1:We arrived at Omar Torrijos airport via American Airlines early in the afternoon. We purchased our required tourist cards (3 balboas, as US dollars are called in Panama) at the airport, then caught a taxi for the 18 mile ride to our downtown hotel. The ride in the battered, un-airconditioned car was rather expensive (30 balboas), but the driver spoke English and was very friendly. We arrived at the hotel and checked in. While my dad was checking in I bought a guidebook in the hotel lobby and read up on the history of Panama City. The original city was founded in 1519 by Pedro Arias Davila, known as Pedrarias the Cruel, because of his eradication of all but three of the local Indian tribes during his tenure in Panama. Davila used the city as a place to store Incan gold before it was shipped to Spain.Omar Torrijos Mausoleum in Amador, Panama City, in...The original city was sacked and burned in 1671 by a group of buccaneers led by Henry Morgan. The city was rebuilt within a year, this time on a peninsula 18 miles away and surrounded by a strong wall. This old Spanish city is now the in the middle downtown Panama City.Panama City is an international melting pot and its eating choices range from American fast food to excellent internationall cuisine. Eager to begin our sightseeing, we grabbed lunch at a nearby McDonald's after checking in then caught a bus. The buses in Panama are a tourist attraction in themselves. They are brightly painted, hung with fringe, and have constantly blaring Salsa and Caracas music playing. They are cheap (50 cents a ride). but are very crowded. After asking several drivers "Donde va este autobus?" we finally found one going to the Plaza Independencia. This plaza is the...

Banking Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4000 words

Banking - Essay Example Depository insurance can be obtained instantly and they are not traded debts since bank incentive take risks and they have no discipline from market prices. Depository insurance have a role of disciplining the management and reduction moral hazard that is, infinite maturity infers that deposits can rapidly disappear; leading to moral hazard; sequential examination also gives a benefit to monitor such services(Pastre?, 2007). Depository insurance helps in ensuring less costly and unnecessary liquidations, duplication of deposits are avoided through monitoring and less probability of runs on solvent thus reducing shock to supply of money at macro level. Depository insurance relates to bank runs in that without monitoring of projects may be vulnerable resulting into socially uneconomical of projects. Allman (2006) describes the lender of the last resort as that institution which is willing to give loans as a last option to banks or other financial institutions that are undergoing financ ial problem that is considered highly risky. Such a firm is usually the country’s central bank. The lender of the last resort produces currency at its discretion to support institutions facing financial problems. ... Since they provide liquidity assistance they help curb the insolvency problem. The lender of the last resort therefore, eases smooth bank runs through recapitalizing the insolvent banks. This helps the financial institutions to enhance their consumer protection. In conclusion, both depository insurance and lender of the last resort have the one thing in common in that they tend to protect various financial institutions from insolvency challenges leading to efficient and effective bank runs. Essay Two An economic theory is a concept or an idea put forward to explain various economic aspects that exist in the world economy. Economic theories are those specifically, these theories explain the aspects in line with monetary effects and financial aspects related to the management and utilization of scarce resources exhaustively (Allman, 2006). The major theories that illustrate the existence of bank include: Economies of scale theory Here, transaction prices at core tend to increase this i s due to fixed cost of evaluating assets thus reducing average costs of trading. This shows that individual cannot at any time diversify perfectly since, bank pool risk and diversify portfolio are cheaper and that the payment services are also cheaper (Pastre?, 2007). A special situation is where liquidity insurance and economies of scale in risk pulling is experienced. Liquidity focuses on the banks cashable deposits as assets are long term and illiquid. Therefore, banks as pools of liquidity gives people with insurance in opposition to idiosyncratic shocks that they can only observe. Banks also protect borrowers from early encashment of loans. Faculty of Business Environment and Society Essay - 9

Faculty of Business Environment and Society - Essay Example This level implies a situation whereby a consumer’s personal definition is influenced by many personal possessions. Some of the possession include clothing, cars, jewellery and others. In this case, the clothes, cars and jewellery one uses are a reflection of their own identity. This is the second part of the extended self and involves a consumer’s possession which are regarded as belonging to the family and therefore, they are taken as symbolic of the entire family. Such possession include furnishings and the residence. In this case, this extended self-concept holds that the home we live in is a huge indicator of who we are. This level explains the extended self in terms of the large society in which a consumer lives in. As such, consumers in this case identify themselves with the town, locality or neighbourhood they live in. this level if very important to residents who relate closely in a community such as farm families. There are a number of theories that try to explain the link between consumer buying behaviour and the concept of extended self. Such theories concentrate on personality and behaviour of the consumer in order to understand their motivation in making consumption decisions. Some of the theories of consumer behaviour theories include the following. This theory forms a framework for explaining why some consumers choose to buy the products they use. The notion is that the consumption behaviour is not a mystery. According to Kotler (2005), this concept can be explained using a Stimulus Response Model whereby the mind is a ‘black-box’ inside the model. The

Keeping school safe Essay Example for Free

Keeping school safe Essay Keeping the Same School Schedule Everything in life is a chain reaction. An event happen because of a certain event. The New york City Department of Education want to change the schedule of the school. Instead of having 8 hours of school we student would be having an extra 2 to 3 hours of school. The positive part is having a friday as a weekend but this plan is not a 100% plan proof because we cant tell the future of all the good and bad that will happen because of this event. Although we can predict the event with the evidence that is there. Why change something that is plan proof? We live using this schedule for decades. Why change that now? If we change the schedule of the school day, students would travel late makes it the most critical problem to having the schedules change. Traveling late leads to traveling in the dangers darkness. As students it would be harder to see so it makesit harder for us students to watch our waysand watch where are we stepping In some case people are too lazy to pick up and clean their dog poop and we the accidental steppin it.In this case your child will come home with a dirty smelly shoe everyday. In another case murderers would camouflage them self.this way they are ready to attack a child while the child will be the victims without knowing. This child could be yours . Statistics show 414 homicides happen in New york city in 2012.If you think youre safe just because the average of homicides decreased by 20% from 2011,then your wrong.According to New York Times we are the third largest homicide city out of the selected 6 cities. This is not good because your child could be the next victim. The younger ones are more vulnerable. Your child could be the next victims and you woud be weeping for your child to come back in to your arm but hopes are lost. Also school time occur throughout winter and fall. These season are the coldest seasons. So student will get sick more easily because we taveling at night time which is more colder. It more worst for student who hve the school near a bay, river or oceanic land mass. Also imagine your child coming home freezing to death with froz bite. This lead to student be absent more and having medical notes increasing.with the amount of increasing medical notes the child will be missing out on at least twice as much as we are learn because of the longer  day(which equal to more information learned). We will face hunger as another of our big problems. Hunger lead to giant gap of opportunities to eat since the earliest lunch period is third which we call breakfast but some calls it b ranch. Already students are complaining about the lack of food they eat and being hungry all the time in school just because they dont want to eat the nasty and grossing school lunch food. This is a problem because student will be missing out on nutritional value. Missing out on nutritional value leads to malnutrition. Not only student are hungry teacher are human being too. Teacher will get cranky if the dont eat .They will most likely intend to eat in class. This makes student more hungry and can make some students cranky too.As for the elementary school kids like kindergraten and first grades will nagg and win to get food from the teachers. Some student may be violent and will fight for food. This is the idea of Surival of the fittest created by Charles Darwin. Lasty imagine a chid passing out in class due to lack of food being eaten. Also you child would not learn anything because the will fall a sleep in class and will not focus because they are too weak too put their mind to work.In addiction to that when human are hungry we will get sleepy to replace the hungerness because your bodyis too weak and will shut down to save energy. All in total of these factor lead to the the stress level on children increases.Which make adults nervous. The factors increase stress level is overload in work due to the extra classes or longer period of class because of more lessons being done in class. This lead to less work time at night and more homework.Which lead to to lack of sleep. This lead to children unable to pay attention because they are sleepy and will fall asleep in class. If the student dont sleep the student will pass out and go into a coma. Also college resume would not look good without after school activities which we student dont have time for. This will have an increasing amount of children have panic attack and nervous breakdown and high school students unable to continue to a go college and get scholarship. In conclusion, all the possibilities will happen just because of this change will happen. There will be other negative unknown happening coming along the way. LIke without after school activities the obesity level will increase.obesity Is one of Americas biggest concern. It one of the top concern in New york City.Along with the stress level on childrens increases which leads. This will have an increasing amount of children have panic attack and nervous breakdown. Also facing hunger will be a large problem because we are starving our children of the future. and Traveling late leads to traveling in the dangers darkness lead â€Å"accidents†.

The Perils of Bullying Essay -- social issues, bullying

â€Å"Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.† These words have been repeated countless times, but they are not accurate. In truth, words can kill. Bullying has become a highlighted problem within our society, and bullying in the school systems is even more prominent. According to the news, there are countless cases of bullying, many of which do not have happy endings. The rates of suicide due to bullying are currently higher than they have ever been before. Suicide is the third top causes of death in young people within the United States, averaging at 4,400 deaths a year, with over 50% of these deaths as a result of some sort of bullying. Studies also show that there are 100 suicide attempts for every one successful suicide performed (â€Å"Bullying and Suicide†). These numbers are disturbingly high. Bullying is affecting more kids in ways that some adults may never understand. The fact that words and actions can lead to cutting and suicides is still a distant concept to some and needs to be brought to immediate attention. Laws are now being put into place to prevent these tragedies, but what is really being done to prevent them within the schools or even within the students’ homes? There is a lot of finger pointing when it comes to this topic. But we all want to know what the cause is behind this nationwide crisis and who is responsible for it. A bully can be defined in several ways and this term is sometimes exaggerated. However, according to the Miriam-Webster Dictionary, a bully is defined as â€Å"one habitually cruel to others who are weaker† and bullying is defined as â€Å"to cause (someone) to do something by making threats or insults or by using force†. These are the formal definitions of the term, but the def... ... Retrieved from http://www.bullyingstatistics.org/content/bullying-statistics.html Johnston, J. (2011, April 19). Theories and Administrative Thought on Modern Day Police Departments

Various sociological theories and administrative thought shows that modern police department is a combination of a hierarchical and quasi-military bureaucracy. In accordance to the fundamental rationality of Weber's theory of bureaucracy, the modern police department is wrought with red tape and other unfortunate side-effects of bureaucratic organizations. On the other hand, as Weber suggested, many large-scale organizations, especially those linked to the government, must be bureaucratic if they are to be most effectively and rationally run. The modern police department, although it has adopted theories of modern sociologists and administrative thinkers, continues to resemble traditional hierarchical and bureaucratic systems. The modern police department resembles least Fayol's theories of management, in which red tape detracts from effectiveness and in which horizontal communication is widely practiced. At the same time, many police departments use Fayol's theories of horizontal communication when seeking accountability and attempting to eliminate corruption within the force. Also in accordance with the theories of Luther Gulick, the theories of Fayol show how within large organizations like police departments, specialization of tasks can lead to effectiveness. Therefore, the modern police department in many ways reflects old-school sociology and administrative theories in that at each rung of the hierarchy, an individual is assigned highly specific tasks and reports to specific individuals in positions of immediate authority. The hierarchy entails that individuals usually report to the person who is ranked immediately above them, similar to a military bureaucracy. The titles and ranks underscore the connections between the modern police department and military organizations. At the same time, police departments are trying to incorporate the more open systems of modern theorists. Based on effective business models, some administrative thought discounts the relevance of bureaucracy and hierarchy in favor of a more democratic operation. Police departments have yet to incorporate such democratic principles within their ranks but at the same time must allow for the inclusion of minorities and minority opinions on the force.

Enriques Journey Essay - 1498 Words

Enrique’s Journey Case Study Samantha Wix Our Lady of the Lake University According to President Obama (2014), â€Å"If we are serious about economic growth, it is time to heed the call of business leaders, labor leaders, faith leaders, and law enforcement- and fix our broken immigration system. The United States of American has long been the safe haven for those who seek to escape poverty, hunger, torture, and oppression in their home countries. In America, Lourdes works a series of menial jobs that are continually disappearing. She lives in a small trailer and can never seem to raise enough money to have her children smuggled over the border. There are many reasons why the poverty population in Honduras is exorbitant. These reasons can be explained in a macro, micro, and mezzo way. According to Gamble (2013), the practice of macro social work involves intervening in large systems to help clients (Gamble, 2013). Honduras has an extremely corrupt government. The country is as poor as it is violent. In the film, The Other Side of Immigration (2009), citizens were interviewed and asked about their feelings on their government. One man said that he does not trust his government. He also stated that he will not take part in any strikes against the government because he feels that it will do no good (Germano, 2009). Sadly, it is apparent that the majority of the population feel this way. How is a country supposed to flourish without the backing and the security of their own government?
